Overview:
Kasteels Poort is one of the most scenic and rewarding hiking routes on Table Mountain, offering panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean, Camps Bay, and the rugged landscape of the Cape Peninsula. The trail takes you through a combination of steep ascents, rocky paths, and diverse flora, showcasing the natural beauty of Table Mountain’s sandstone cliffs and the fynbos vegetation. This route is ideal for adventurous hikers looking for a less crowded alternative to the more popular trails.

Description:
The hike starts at the Pipe Track, just above Camps Bay. As you ascend through Kasteels Poort, you’ll encounter a variety of terrains, from well-maintained paths to rocky sections requiring careful navigation. About halfway through the trail, breathtaking views of the Twelve Apostles mountain range and the Atlantic coastline unfold, providing excellent photo opportunities.

The final section of the trail takes you up to the back table of Table Mountain, near the reservoirs. Along the way, you will pass by historical relics, including remnants of old cableways used to transport materials during the construction of the dams atop the mountain.
